When Two Strangers Discover Their Hometowns Are Linked by Mass Shootings

When Parkland father Evan Nierman struck up a conversation with a woman during an out-of-town event, he was stunned to discover they shared a horrible truth: both their hometowns had been the sites of mass school shootings.

Evan is from Parkland, Fla. where the Stoneman Douglas school shooting occurred; the woman hailed from Newtown, Conn. where the Sandy Hook school shooting occurred. Evan described the encounter and his accompanying feelings in an op ed in the Sun Sentinel.

In the article, Evan noted that no federal gun legislation has been enacted since the Parkland massacre in 2018, while many members of Congress continue to glorify guns and push for unfettered gun rights.
